Towards precision irrigation management: A review of GIS, remote sensing and emerging technologies

Irrigation is the artificial application of water to crops supply moisture. With rising drought indices and rapid population expansion, need for irrigation food production growing. Nonetheless, irrigated agriculture battling several issues that have resulted in poor performance, inefficient usage, low crop production. Improving use efficiency necessitates using technology decreases losses, matches available supplies demand, tracks performance. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Remote Sensing (RS) allow effectively managing land resources irrigation. Current GIS RS uses systems are covered this study, covering suitability irrigation, needs, scheduling, performance evaluation, other related applications. The future potential applications sustainable management highlighted. This paper offers relevant information researchers, irrigators, policymakers on how technological improvements will change enhance usage efficiency.
